One of the questions I get asked most often is, "How do you remember all the dogs and cats you care for?"
The truth is...I don't remember them because of their names.
I remember them because of their stories.
Every pet who walks through my door arrives with a personality all their own. Some burst into the house ready to play with everyone they meet. Others quietly watch from across the room until they're sure everything is safe. Some make friends instantly, while others prefer one special buddy or a quiet place to nap.
There isn't a right or wrong way to be.
There is simply their way.
Learning Who They Are
The first day isn't about teaching a pet how to fit into my home.
It's about learning how my home can help them feel comfortable.
Does this dog love to wrestle with friends?
Would they rather carry a toy around instead?
Do they enjoy exploring the yard?
Would they rather curl up beside me while I work?
Those little moments tell me far more than a breed description ever could.
The Little Things Matter
Over the years I've met pets that have stayed with me forever.
Blue carefully sniffing every inch of the yard before deciding where to go.
Charlie greeting everyone with a constantly wagging tail.
Lucy finding comfort by staying close to Charlie.
Mocha and Yuni choosing each other before anyone else.
Bina politely pressing buttons when she wanted treats instead of demanding attention.
Zeno teaching us that trust isn't something you rushโit grows one patient day at a time.
Kahlรบa reminding us that even the tiniest puppy can walk up to a dog ten times her size and say, "Hi! Want to be friends?"
Those aren't just memories.
They're the stories that make each one unforgettable.
More Than Boarding
People often think pet sitting is simply feeding pets, taking them outside, and making sure they're safe.
Of course, those things matter.
But I believe something even more important happens while they're here.
They build confidence.
They make friends.
They discover new experiences.
They find favorite sleeping spots.
They teach us about patience, trust, kindness, and unconditional love.
Sometimes they even change us.
Why I Share These Stories
That's why you'll find Featured Pets here on my website.
Each one celebrates an animal exactly as they are.
Not because they're perfect.
Not because they're famous.
But because every pet deserves to have their story told.
And I feel incredibly lucky that, for a little while, I get to be part of it.
